Stimmt!

Yes, it conserves lead. While a common mechanical pencil can't use the last 15 to 20 percent of the lead (this part is no longer held properly in axial direction) these double-clutch writing implements produce only 2.5 percent waste; this is a noticeable difference. The pencils with that mechanism are useful not only for more expensive lead but also for lead that breaks more easily (like the colour variants).

The Pentel e-sharp (AZ125) pursues a similar goal. As far as I know the sleeve of this pencil is much closer to the clutch, making a continuous feed possbile. With this, the last part of the old lead is held in axial direction by the new one that follows. This reduces the lead waste to 3.5mm which is about 6 percent.

Do you have some information about that Parker set you mentioned? Any detail is much appreciated.

The Parker set I had, it's pencil mechanism was exactly like this. The jaws extended out from the tip. I guess it would conserve lead, wouldn't it?
