  2. So Staedtler still manufactures in the UK or all plants have been closed down?

Odd that a pencil is meant for „handwriting“. Wonder if there ever was a machine capable of writing by the use of pencils!

  3. The yellow color on the pencil also strikes me as odd, considering the color pattern on the German version. Could it be American influence?

I personally prefer then gorgeous striped German version.

  4. Guillermo de la Maza: As far as I know the different Staedtler branches were/are quite independent so they may use varying colours for some of their products. – As you can see here the Noris yellow has changed over the years.

Matt: I don’t have any details about Staedtler Australia. – Thank you for the link to the triplus slim; I haven’t seen that pencil yet. – Isn’t the triplus slim 188 also called Noris Club 118 and made in Germany?

  5. Matt, gonna ask someone from the U.K. if the yellow Noris was common over there. It would be nice to know whether or not they kept the German color pattern or went their own route to somehow differentiate themselves. I’ll keep you both posted.

Gunther, That will begin to explain why we get here some many variants of what is essentially the same pencil, meaning the 132. Guess the local importer found a formula that pleases most of the market, and has kept glued to it.

Going to give a careful read to that post about the Noris. I love to learn about pencil history!

  6. To make it even more confusing there has also been a Noris labelled “School Pencil” in the UK. – Quite while ago I have thought about showing different Noris variants along with some details; maybe I should do that (it would also include German Noris variants with different imprints).

Yes, it could be possible that such a decision has been made.

I am happy to hear that you enjoy learing about pencil history. It can be very exciting!

  7. I don’t know about the triplus slim 188, it sure looks like the Noris club 118 though!
Triplus slim 118 was made in Indonesia, I guess the Noris club 118 is either the new name, or the made in Germany version ?

I will try to get you some of these yellow triplus if you want…I bought one this summer in Winnipeg, it’s the only place I’ve seen it for now.
