Argument

  1. A beautiful design. I especially like the way the umlaut sits within the capital U.

And I wonder: why the name Argument for a pen? Granted, a pen allows a user to make arguments. But there’s more to writing.

There’s an expression in English, „You’ll get no argument from me.“ Is there a similar expression in German? Would the quality of the Argument pen mean that no one would get an Argument from its owner — in other words, that the owner wouldn’t lend it?

  2. Michael Leddy: I am happy to hear that you like the design of the ad too. – I also wonder about the name but haven’t found any information about its origin yet.

I haven’t heard of the expression „You’ll get no argument from me“ before so I had to ask a colleague. Yes, we have some similar expressions in German – depending on the context – but most of them are a little negative compared to the English one. Besides that, the ones I know don’t contain the word „Argument“ so I doubt that they have inspired Karasch to name their writing utensils. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have picked the name on a whim!

Volker Busse: Danke für diese Information! Eine tolle Schrift – besonders das G, das a und das t haben es mir angetan.

  3. Michael Leddy: A reader has suggested the following: The pen is a strong argument in favour of itself or, as an argument from the contrary, beyond any argument against its purchase right from the beginning. Very smart!
