The Editor

The Editor

The Editor

  4. Der Schriftzug „CARAN d’ACHE“ wurde zum 100-jährigen Jubiläum des Unternehmens im Jahr 2015 zu „CARAN D’ACHE“ geändert.

  1. Thank you Gunther for reviewing this very special pencil. My German is long forgotten, and probably google trad is wrong, but it appeared mine were first paint red, then the half paint black, not the contrary…but that doesn’t matter!

I would have prefered to have thinner leads, since I always have the feeling 3mm leads are just wasted when you sharpen to a fine point, but this CWPE/Caran d’Ache is still a really nice pencil I’m regularly using, since I bought it last week.
I still haven’t found the „red pencil graal“, my preferred one to date are Faber Castell Polychromos…with a very thick and soft lead I have to sharpen all the time! My recent trip to CWPE in New York allowed me to pick several red pencils I haven’t tried yet, so maybe my opinion will change soon !

Anyway it’s nice to see new offering like this editor pencil, for those seeking red and graphite combo. (I have not been able to source the perfetto yet, how stupid of me, I was really close to them last week, but didnt know about them)

  2. Matt, thank you for your comment. Of course you’re right – I got the order of the lacquers wrong; I have corrected it.

You are right about the 3 mm leads – I too think that with this diameter very much is lost by sharpening. I assume the colour lead was the determining factor, and since two grooves with different sizes are technically feasible only with huge effort (if at all) the graphite lead had to be 3 mm too. However, I think that Caran d’Ache has a 2 mm red lead which would have been usable for the Editor.

I hope that you will enjoy the red pencils you have picked up at CWPE!

The Perfetto is maybe a little too soft, but the graphite part could be a little smoother. However, it is beautifully designed.

Maybe someday another manufacturer offers this combination too!

  3. I’ll try them very soon :)
By the way, isn’t the 10th anniversary of your blog very soon? Congratulations (if I’m not mistaken) on these 10 years of great content, pencil or not pencil!

  4. I’m eager to hear what you think of the Perfetto!

Yes, you’re right – my blog’s 10th anniversary in on June 16. Thank you for your congratulations and your compliment!
