Vom dänischen Anbieter Viking gibt es ein attraktives Set1 nicht nur für Bleistift-Sammler.
Es enthält 14 holzgefasste Stifte, einen Doppelspitzer und einen Radierer. Mit dabei sind auch der Skoleblyant 029 sowie zwei dicke Valgblyant mit roter und Graphitmine.
Im bedruckten Schuber befindet sich ein Karton mit Deckel, in diesem eine Einlage aus Schaumstoff mit ebensolcher Abdeckung und ein kleiner Beileger mit einer Notiz des Firmeninhabers Jens Myhren Thomsen.
Die Stifte sind paarweise eingelegt und werden sicher gehalten.
Das in meinen Augen sehr geschmackvolle Set ist direkt bei Viking erhältlich und kostet umgerechnet knapp 27 Euro.
- Bei dem Namen des Sets bin ich unsicher. Auf der dänischen Website heißt es „Viking Collectors sæt“, was ich als „Viking Collector’s Set“ übersetzen würde, doch auf den Seitenflächen des Sets steht „Viking Collectors Pencil Set“. Ich benutze daher letzteres.↩

It’s indeed a great set! Yes, if I remember correctly it was a part of Esselte at some point. They have made extensive improvements to the brand, in quality as well as in design, and I always enjoy using Viking pencils.
What a great-looking set! Samplers like this one used to be the norm, but now they are the exception.

Ja, das stimmt! Im Gegensatz zu den zweifellos auch reizvollen Sets von Caran d’Ache gefällt mir bei dem von Viking auch, dass es nicht extravagant ist.
Mit solchen Sets kann ich wenig anfangen, brauchen tu ich vor allem HB Stifte, der Rest bleibt dann über. Schön mag es ja sein, so what!
Ich finde Bleistifte ohne farbige Beschichtung irgendwie nicht schön. Farbe gehört dazu! Die holzfarbenen Bleistifte wirken auf mich immer billig. Hier soll das natürlich nordisch puristisch wirken, tut es auf mich allerdings nicht, ich kann mir da nicht helfen.

We still do’nt really know where Viking manufactures its products…last time I asked I got a vague answer saying „in Europe“. There are a few pencil factories in Germany, France, Portugal, Czech republic, but none in Denmark apparently. Who knows?
Bernhard: Mit dem Set richtet sich Viking ja auch nicht an diejenigen, die nur „HB-Stifte“ brauchen. – Ob die unlackierten Stifte „nordisch puristisch“ wirken sollen, weiß ich nicht; vielleicht will man auch nur die schöne Maserung zeigen.
Matt: I’m happy to hear that you like it too! Yes, it’s indeed not expensive. – I don’t know where these pencils are made, but many companies are a little reserved (to put it mildly) when it comes to such details but I think it is all too understandable.
Ist das dann ein reines Sammelobjekt, also quasi zu erwerben um es nicht zu benutzen? Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass man so was auch zur Benutzung erwirbt, wenn man im Schreibtisch ein wenig Platz hat. Es ist auch ganz nett über einen längeren Zeitraum den Bleistiften beim Schrumpfen zuzusehen. Was ist das übrigens für ein Spitzer in dem Set? Hat der auch ein Viking(er) Signet oder ist der quasi die namenlose Beigabe? Und wie sieht er aus, nach einem deutschen Hersteller oder wie eine Eigenproduktion der Fa. Viking?
Wenn man das Set nicht benutzt und nur ins Regal legt, kann man es wohl als Sammelobjekt bezeichnen ;-) Natürlich kann man es auch benutzen, wenn man eine Verwendung für diese Vielfalt hat. – Der Spitzer, das Modell „Beta“, ist auf seiner Rückseite ausführlich gekennzeichnet. Von wem und wo er gefertigt wurde, kann ich ihm nicht ansehen.

The graphic on the front of the package is pretty cool and so is the nice little card on the inside. The quality and quantity of the pencils provided is also a good value and a nice way to introduce yourself to the brand, however, mine came with a rather badly finished Valgblyant graphite pencil. It really seemed like a rejected unit that was just thrown in. Fortunately, the team at CW Pencils promptly got me a replacement.
I didn’t knew that these pencils were manufactured outside Denmark, but even if they are produced by another company, it’s nice to see that they feel different from most many others. I quite like them.
Hope other manufacturers follow suit with affordable sets aimed at pencil lovers.

Viking’s corporate design is amazing – it’s well thought-out and perfectly executed. Yes, the selection is very good! I’m sorry to hear about the quality issue; I’m glad that a solution could be found.
Yes, these pencils indeed feel and write differently from many others, and this is one reason why I like them very much (my favourite is the Skoleblyant 029).
I too would welcome such sets from other manufacturers!
I really loved this groteske style font used on the Viking’s pencils imprints, it remembers the font used on the rOtring 600 numbers. Really good taste on there. Actually everything is really well designed by Viking.
