Number 9 Pencil

  3. Bekannt sind die Holzschäfte von Turn of the Century (siehe „Ein verdelter Klassiker“) und der Spoke (siehe „Speichenstift“).

  1. Love your brass collection that is ever increasing in size. Castor, Pollux, Janus 4046, Janus 4048, grenade, a pair of compasses etc. This new series 9/P200 addition is a beauty. Still looking for someting special? One ‘extra prima’ :) question: Is this pencil holder made of eco brass (without lead/Pb?

  2. Beautiful! I can’t wait to see it in five years’ time when it’s built up a lovely patina.

My old boss used a P207 exclusively for everything he wrote – which was quite a lot, as he tended to do most of his work by hand and only later type it up where required. He had just that one pencil, and I never saw him use another the whole eight years I worked with him.

When he retired, it was one of the few things he took with him for his ‘new start’. That was seven years ago – nearly as far behind me as the length of time we worked together – and I sometimes wonder if he still has it.

  4. Wowter: I’m happy to hear that you like this pencil too! I don’t think that it’s Ecobrass but I have asked the maker of this pencil.

Koralatov: Yes, I’m eager to see the patina too! – Thank you for sharing that nice story. I can imagine that this P207 means much to him!

  5. What a beautiful mechanical pencil! Never been much of a fan of the P20X Sharp series, but this custom edition certainly looks very appealing for someone like me that enjoys metal mechanical pencils.

It looks extraordinarily elegant. A testament to Pentel’s great design no doubt. Wonder why Pentel has never come out with a metal version of this pencil, considering the thousands of special editions it has released over the years.

  6. It’s really amazing! I use it daily since I bought it and I am still very happy with it.

Yes, it’s really odd that Pentel never had a special metal edition of the P200, not even on the occasion of an anniversary.

  7. Do you happen to have a Kaweco Special mp? If so, What would you say is a better alternative, this pencils or the Kaweco Special Brass?

    What lead size is yours?

Definitely saving for one of these.

BTW A few months ago, I finally got me a Caran d’Ache 844 0.7mm mechanical pencil, and lo and behold, I’ve been finding Caran’s HB lead to be something extraordinary!

Have you ever try it? Do you like Caran’s Fixpencil design?

  8. No, I don’t have a Kaweco Special mechanical pencil so I can’t tell the difference.

    I use 0.3 mm.

Get one – you won’t regret it!

The Caran d’Ache 844 (Fixpencil) is a classic and I like its design very much. Yes, the Caran d’Ache leads are really something special. They have that particular “glide” I haven’t found elsewhere yet.

  9. I definitely will!

You are right about the Caran leads, they glide beautifully! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting that. Neox was my favorite, but Caran in 0.7mm HB is simply the best.

Do you have other grades available in Germany?

  10. I was referring to Caran d’Ache’s clay-bound leads; so far I haven’t compared their polymer leads to those from other manufacturers. But it looks like I should do so!

Unfortunately it’s very difficult to get Caran d’Ache products in Germany but if I remember correcly I once had B leads.
