Welche braunen Tinten bevorzugen meine Leser?
There is a Dutch fountain pen store that sells a wide variety of inks (31 different) for them. See: http://www.vulpennen.nl/nl/merken/AkkInkt023–akkerman-fountain-pen-ink-60-ml-.html . They also have a range of inks named after Dutch masters: http://www.vulpennen.nl/nl/akkerman/inkt–and–vullingen/p-1a/AKKDM01–dutch-masters-fountain-pen-ink-by-p-w–akkerman.html (12 varieties among them a few less familiar browns). What is special in their offering as well is that they sell all inks in capped 60 ml bottles with a glass marble in the neck to aid the filling process. As I am colour blind (part of 8 % of male population :() I am sorry to be unable in suggesting one of these colours in particular. The marbled bottles remind of the famous Dutch brand Gimborn that was later (1931) bought by Pelikan. However, I do not know where Akkerman sources its inks.
Sorry, I forgot the brand Diamine from Liverpool: http://www.vulpennen.nl/en/merken/diamine/p-1/1%20Denim%20Blue.html . Such a huge assortment with many browns. Or their official website: http://www.diamineinks.co.uk .
Thank you for pointing me to vulpennen.nl, Wowter! There are beautiful colours, e. g. the Hojesbruin and van Huysum’s sapgroen. I wonder how their special bottles word. – The range of coulors at Diamine is impressive. There is so much to discover!
Regarding the Gimborn/Akkerman bottles. Maybe this post on another forum might help. http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/247820-pw-akkerman-fountain-pen-ink-bottle-design/ . The Gimborn bottle design with glass marble by famous Dutch glass designer A.D. (Andries Dirk) Copier dated from 1936 onwards are true collector’s items these days. You just tilt the bottle and the ink flows in the upper section while the marble stops the ink from flowing back to the lower compartment if you tilt the bottle in the normal position.
Reading your comments is expensive, Wowter! ;-) After reading about these bottles I couldn’t resist placing an order. I am very eager to look closer at them!
It happens to me often when I read your stories! Pencils, sharpeners, scissors and erasers. Lexikaliker has ruined/bankrupted me over the years :).
Wowter: On the one hand, I am sorry to hear that but on the other hand I am glad since I know how much fun pencils, sharpeners etc. can be! :-)
When the Akkerman bottles first came out (the bottles were bigger, the price was similar or cheaper) the inks were actually from Diamine, but that was a few years ago. I don’t know whether they have changed suppliers.
Oh! Thank you for that detail.
