Granate

Beitrag in diesem Weblog.

  1. Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu den 250 Beiträgen. (I’ll better continue in English, this was hard enough :=). It is a very interesting weblog, thanks for the effort.
I remember this Granat Spitzer from school. It was THE sharpener because it had other virtues than sharpening – mainly something related to it’s name…
Thank you also for the link to “der kleine Abspitzer Fibel” I didn’t know there was such a book. Along with Henry Petrosky’s “the Pencil” it must be a “must have” for pencil freaks – wonder if there’s a “Radiere Fibel” as well, somewhere?
    Keep up the good work
    Henrik

  2. Danke für den Glückwunsch! :-)

I am happy to hear that the „Granate“ was the „sharpener of sharpeners“ (if I have understood it correctly). Yes, the name surely increases the popularity of that device ;-)

The „Kleine Anspitzer-Fibel“ was a surprise for me too when I came across it a few weeks ago. It is actually a collection of old advertisments that were scannned and edited very accurately and commented skilfully – a real treasure trove for everyone interested in historical sharpeners. As far as I know it is a „book on demand“; this could explain its price that is comparably high.

I have never heard about a similar book about erasers. Showing old ones might prove difficult since they are either used or aged but besides advertisements and catalogue excerpts such a book could also include a few details about the compounds (if disclosed by the manufacturers); I am sure that this is an interesting topic as well.

  5. Danke!

  6. Usually, the spare blades should be available from these sellers who offer that sharperner. If you are looking for a retailer who ships internationally I will look for one.

  7. Thanks a lot for the answer.

I bought mine when I was in Germany last summer and I forgot to ask for spare blades.

If you know any good seller that will ship in Greece please let me know.

    Best Regards

  12. I’m thinking to get the M+R 602 (Alvin) on Amazon but the price is really expensive: 12 dolars. I already own the Granate and I liked very much. Should I get the 602? The second blade is to sharp jumbo pencils or it works like KUM Masterpiece with 2 steps sharping?

  13. 12 USD for the 602 is steep! The second hole in the 602 is for sharpening jumbo pencils with a diameter of up to 11.2 mm (it also has a wider angle).
